Forestry Resources Aurora has an estimated 236,804 hectares of public forestland of which 228,649 hectares are timberland. The municipality of San Luis has the biggest forestland with an area of 52,197 hectares, followed by Casiguran and Dilasag with 48,122 and 33,909 hectares respectively. Source: DENR, 2003 As of 2003, Aurora has a total of 5 registered farmers. The municipality of Maria Aurora registered the highest number with 4,500 or about 34.29 percent of the total. This is followed by Dipaculao with 2,769 farmers or about 21.10 percent, Dilasag with 1,450 or 11.05 percent, San Luis of 1,283 or 9.78 percent, Casiguran with 1,233 farmers or 9.39 percent, Baler with 844 or 6.43 percent while the municipalities of Dinalungan and Dingalan registered 557 and 489 or 4.24 percent and 3.73 percent respectively. Different types of irrigation systems are present in the province such as Shallow Tube Well (STW), SFR, Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP)/Diversion Dam (DD), PISOS, National Irrigation System (NIS), and Communal Irrigation System (CIS). The irrigation systems cover a total land area of 5,090.19 hectares and serve 3,453 farmers.
Source: OPAg, 2003 The Communal Irrigation System covers 2,175.85 hectares or about 42.75 percent serving 1,496 farmers followed by the National Irrigation System covering 2,009.02 hectares or about 39.47 hectares while serving 1,352 farmers. Shallow Tube Well covers an area of 424.3 hectares or 8.34 percent serving 258 farmers, Small Water Impounding Project, 255.25 hectares or 5.02 percent serving 213 farmers, SFR with 195.75 hectares or 3.85 percent serving 155 farmers and the PISOS, 30 hectares or 0.59 percent serving 25 farmers. Aurora as an agricultural province lacks post harvest facilities to cater to the needs of the farmers. Post harvest facilities such as rice mills, abattoir warehouse and dyer will be of great help to the farmers.

Source: DENR, 2003 Wildlife Resources Aurora National Park with a total of 4,310 hectares which is situated in the municipalities of Maria Aurora and San Luis serves as the wildlife sanctuaries (see Table 6). Different kinds of wild animals and birds exist in the area. However, these species will be endangered if illegal cutting of trees and forest exploitation will not be abated. |
